First trailer for 'Maze Runner' sequel 'The Scorch Trials' released

LOS ANGELES, May 19 (UPI) -- 20th Century Fox released the first trailer for Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, the second film based on the book series by James Dashner.

Dylan O'Brien is reprising his role as Thomas, who along with his friend is trying to figure out his place in this new world he has discovered.

After escaping the maze trials things get more complicated as the survivors search for answers and end up at the Scorch.

"It's time now to start phase two," a voice says in the clip.

Aiden Gillan, who plays Petyr Baelish on Game of Thrones, is the leader at Scorch and first welcomes the new inhabitants but his intentions are unclear when he asks Thomas, "I just want to know one thing, whose side are you on?"

The first look shows a glimpse of the Gladers trying to escape the power of WCKD and it's efforts to restore humanity.

Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials opens in theaters September 18.
