LOS ANGELES, May 13 (UPI) -- Mia Wasikowska stars in a first full-length Crimson Peak trailer.

The 25-year-old actress portrays Edith Cushing, an author married to the charming Sir Thomas Sharpe (Tom Hiddleston). The character discovers her husband is hiding a mysterious past after she moves into his sinister English mansion.

The preview sees Edith explore the haunted house despite being warned not to by Thomas' sister Lucille (Jessica Chastain). Charlie Hunnam also stars as Alan McMichael, a doctor in love with the young protagonist.

Guillermo del Toro (Pan's Labyrinth) wrote, directed and produced the film, which opens in theaters October 16. The director was inspired by haunted house movies The Haunting (1963) by Robert Wise and The Innocents (1961) by Jack Clayton.

Wasikowska previously collaborated with Hiddleston on Jim Jarmusch vampire drama Only Lovers Left Alive, and starred opposite Nicole Kidman in creepy Chan-wook Park (Oldboy) film Stoker. The actress is also scheduled for Alice Through the Looking Glass.
