LOS ANGELES, May 12 (UPI) -- Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for its eagerly awaited, live-action version of the 1980s, cult-classic cartoon Jem and the Holograms.
John M. Chu helmed the movie, which stars Aubrey Peeples as Jerrica -- also known as Jem when she performs as the lead singer of her female rock band. Rounding out the members of the titular girl group are Stefanie Scott as Kimber, Aurora Perrineau as Shana and Hayley Kiyoko as Aja. Ryan Guzman will play Jem/Jerrica's love interest, Rio. The movie is set for an October theatrical release.

"In Universal Pictures' Jem and the Holograms, four aspiring musicians will take the world by storm when they see that the key to creating your own destiny lies in finding your own voice."
