LOS ANGELES, April 27 (UPI) -- Kodi Smit-McPhee stars as Nightcrawler in new X-Men: Apocalypse photos.
The 18-year-old actor and director Bryan Singer posted the pictures on social media before deleting them in keeping with the Marvel character's ability to appear and disappear via teleportation.
"First day on set! Here is @kodismitmcpheee as #Nightcrawler. Catch him before he's gone...." Singer captioned the snapshot.
Alan Cumming portrayed an older version of the character in X2 (2003), which saw the superhero brainwashed into an assassination attempt on the president. The mutant is characterized by his indigo-colored skin, yellow eyes and prehensile tail, and also possesses superhuman agility.
X-Men: Apocalypse opens in theaters May 27, 2016. James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence will return as Charles Xavier, Magneto and Mystique, while Sophie Turner, Alexandra Shipp and Tye Sheridan have joined the cast as Jean Grey, Storm and Cylops.
