LAS VEGAS, April 23 (UPI) -- Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are producing and writing a treatment for an animated Spider-Man movie, which is set for release in July 2018, Sony Pictures Entertainment said.
The announcement was made Wednesday at CinemaCon by Tom Rothman, chairman of the Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group.
Lord and Miller are the filmmakers behind the blockbusters The Lego Movie, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, and 21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street.
No title, voice cast or director have been announced yet.
The comic-book webslinger will next appear in a live-action Marvel film from Marvel's Cinematic Universe. Sony Pictures will thereafter release the next installment of its $4 billion Spider-Man franchise on July 28, 2017. It will be a live-action film produced by Kevin Feige at Marvel and Amy Pascal, who oversaw the franchise launch for Sony 13 years ago.
