LOS ANGELES, April 10 (UPI) -- Suicide Squad director David Ayer offered a glimpse of Oscar-winning actor Jared Leto as the iconic villain Joker in a photo he posted on Twitter.
"#WhereIsJared #SuicideSquad," Ayer captioned the picture, which showed Leto with bright green hair, holding a camera that obscured most of his face.
The image followed a star-studded cast photo Ayer had tweeted earlier, prompting fans to wonder why Leto wasn't seen alongside his co-stars Margot Robbie, Will Smith, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Cara Delevingne and Jai Courtney.
Set to begin shooting next week, the big-screen, comic-book adaptation will be released in theaters Aug. 5, 2016.
