LOS ANGELES, March 18 (UPI) -- Paul Reubens began filming Pee-wee's Big Holiday this week.

The 62-year-old actor celebrated by sharing a throwback photo as Pee-wee Herman on the character's website Tuesday. Reubens sports a signature grey suit and red bow tie as Herman in the picture, and revealed details from the new film.

"Wow, I am tired!" he wrote to accompany the snapshot. "Just finished the second day of filming. Hitchhiked yesterday all day. Got a ride, hitchhiked some more, then got another ride. A lot of traveling in two days!"

Reubens first portrayed Herman in stage show The Pee-wee Herman Show in the 1980s, and went on to star in feature film Pee-wee's Big Adventure (1985). The character also inspired television series Pee-wee's Playhouse, which aired on CBS from 1986 to 1990.

"It's a road-trip movie across the country," the actor told Entertainment Weekly of the upcoming sequel. "It's very similar in style and tone to Pee-wee's Big Adventure ... We wanted to make something that appealed to a wide age range, and I think that's the case with this movie also."

Pee-wee's Big Holiday is directed by John Lee and produced by Judd Apatow, and will premiere on Netflix. Reubens revealed he doesn't feel "real different' about playing Herman decades later, saying, "It's just something that's inside me somewhere, and I've always been able to switch it on and switch it off."
