SAN FRANCISCO, March 12 (UPI) -- Disney has confirmed plans for Frozen 2.
The studio officially announced the sequel at its annual shareholders meeting Thursday in San Francisco.
Frozen directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck will return to helm the film, and "have come up with a great idea" for the story, Disney executive John Lasseter teased.
Frozen opened in theaters in November 2013, and earned over $1.27 billion at the box office. The movie stars Idina Menzel as Queen Elsa and Kristen Bell as Princess Anna, and won Best Animated Feature at the 86th Academy Awards.
Lee and Buck recently collaborated with Menzel and Bell on short film Frozen Fever. The mini-sequel sees Elsa, Kristoff (Jonathan Groff) and Olaf (Josh Gad) prepare a birthday party for Anna, and will screen ahead of Cinderella showings starting March 13.
