LOS ANGELES, Feb. 23 (UPI) -- Pop music star Lady Gaga was poised and elegant as she sang a medley of well-loved songs from the movie musical The Sound of Music at the 87th Oscars ceremony in Los Angeles Sunday night.

The performance, which earned a standing ovation from the A-list audience, was in honor of the classic film's 50th anniversary. The movie's star Julie Andrews came out on stage after Lady Gaga finished her number.

"Dear Lady Gaga, thank you for that wonderful tribute," Andrews said. "Oh, my God. It really warmed my heart. It really did. It's hard to believe that 50 years have gone by since that joyous film was released. I blinked and suddenly here I am. I think that I do speak for everyone connected with the movie when I say we all really felt blessed to have been a part of it and, as for me, how lucky can a girl get? Great music does more than enhance a film. It cements our memories in the filmgoing experience."

Andrews then presented the Oscar for Best Original Score to The Grand Budapest Hotel.
