Alejandro G. Inarritu wins top film prize at Directors Guild of America Awards

The awards ceremony was hosted by actress and comedian Jane Lynch at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles.

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 8 (UPI) -- Birdman director Alejandro G. Inarritu won the the top prize at the Directors Guild of America Awards ceremony in Los Angeles Saturday night.

Inarritu was presented with the honor for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film at the event, which was hosted by actress and comedian Jane Lynch at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza.

About 1,600 guests attended the gala. Presenters included Chadwick Boseman, Pierce Brosnan, Glen Charles, Les Charles, Bradley Cooper, Alfonso Cuaron, Julie Delpy, Jodie Foster, Taraji P. Henson, January Jones, Michael Mann, Lea Michele, Don Mischer, Bill Murray, Katey Sagal, Steven Spielberg and Barbra Streisand.

Lesli Linka Glatter won the award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Dramatic Series for an episode of Homeland called "From A to B and Back Again," while the Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Comedy Series accolade went to Jill Soloway for an episode of Transparent titled "Best New Girl."

Lisa Cholodenko earned the honor for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Movies for Television and Miniseries for helming the miniseries Olive Kitteridge.

Laura Poitras scored the prize for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Documentary for Citizenfour.
