Clothes make the woman: Julianne Moore on the costumes, tail in 'Seventh Son'

"Our costumes were tremendous. Not only did I have the tail, but I also had like bones that came out the back, a spine thing and feathers. I had extra hair, contact lenses, special makeup, big shoes," Moore told UPI.

NEW YORK, Feb. 5 (UPI) -- Julianne Moore says the elaborate costumes she wore in the fantasy film "Seventh Son" went a long way in helping her play its powerful, but wicked witch Mother Malkin.

"Oh, golly! Our costumes were tremendous. Not only did I have the tail, but I also had like bones that came out the back, a spine thing and feathers. I had extra hair, contact lenses, special makeup, big shoes. The most daunting part, I think, for me, were the costumes and trying to kind of carry them off. The Jacqueline West costumes sort of made the character for me. It was such a thrill to get to do that," the 54-year-old actress told UPI at a recent press conference in New York.

"To have that kind of support -- those costumes and Dante Ferretti's beautiful sets and that whole fantastical world they created -- gave us so much. It just sort of allowed you to step into that very easily."

Co-starring Jeff Bridges and Ben Barnes, "Seventh Son" opens in U.S. theaters Friday. Moore is also nominated for an Oscar for her performance in the drama "Still Alice."
