Godzilla director Gareth Edwards will helm the feature, which is scheduled for release Dec. 16, 2016. The Book of Eli screenwriter Gary Whitta left the project in mid-January, and was replaced by Chris Weitz last week.

Chronicle director Josh Trank will helm the second movie for release in 2018. The spinoffs are rumored to be origin stories, and possibly focus on Boba Fett, Han Solo or Yoda. Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens opens in theaters in December.

Jones is known for such films as Like Crazy and The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and last portrayed Jane Hawking in The Theory of Everything. The actress is scheduled for True Story with James Franco and Jonah Hill, and Autobahn with Nicholas Hoult and Anthony Hopkins.
