'Despicable Me' prequel 'Minions' debuts new trailer

The film takes place in 1968, decades before the events of "Despicable Me."

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 3 (UPI) -- Stuart, Kevin and Bob return in a new trailer for Despicable Me prequel Minions.

The preview sees the trio of yellow creatures hitch a ride to Villain-Con in Orlando, where they meet celebrity criminal Scarlet Overkill (Sandra Bullock). The evildoer invites the group into her home, and the minions find themselves in over their heads.

Minions is directed by Kyle Balda and Pierre Coffin, who also voices Stuart, Kevin and Bob. Mad Men actor Jon Hamm portrays Scarlet's husband Herb, with additional roles by Michael Keaton, Allison Janney and Steve Coogan.

Despicable Me (2010) raked in over $543 million at the box office, while sequel Despicable Me 2 (2013) grossed $970 million. Minions takes place 42 years before the events of the original movie, and is scheduled for release July 10.
