LOS ANGELES, Jan. 22 (UPI) -- Simon Pegg will co-write Star Trek 3 with Doug Jung.
The 44-year-old actor portrayed Montgomery Scott in Star Trek (2009) and Star Trek Into Darkness (2013), and will reprise the role in the sequel. Roberto Orci was slated to write and direct the film, but left the project in December 2014.
Justin Lin was subsequently brought on to replace Orci. The director is known for four Fast and the Furious movies, and helmed Better Luck Tomorrow and Annapolis. He will also direct the first two episodes of season two of HBO drama True Detective.
Pegg previously co-wrote and starred in Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World's End. Jung served as a producer on HBO series Big Love, and wrote and executive produced TNT police drama Dark Blue.
