Leonardo DiCaprio stars in first photos from 'The Revenant'

PORTLAND, Ore., Jan. 21 (UPI) -- Leonardo DiCaprio stars in the first photos from The Revenant.

The 40-year-old actor portrays Hugh Glass, a real-life fur trapper robbed and left for dead after a bear attack in the 1800s. Deserted and defenseless, the frontiersman survives the ordeal and sets out to take revenge.

The Revenant is based on the Michael Plunke novel of the same name, and directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (Babel, Birdman). Tom Hardy, Domhnall Gleeson and Will Poulter also star as Glass' former companions.

DiCaprio and Hardy previously collaborated on Christopher Nolan film Inception (2010). The actor last portrayed Jordan Belfort in Martin Scorsese drama The Wolf of Wall Street, while Hardy is scheduled for Child 44 and Mad Max: Fury Road.
