The 60-year-old actor's previous wins included a three-year run from 2006-08 and one more victory in 2012 before he spent 2013 in the No. 2 spot.
Washington's film credits include The Equalizer, 2 Guns, Flight, Safe House, American Gangster, The Hurricane, Training Day, Malcolm X and Glory.
The results of the most recent Harris Poll were released Thursday. Surveyed online were 2,255 U.S. adults between Dec. 10-15.
Coming in at No. 2 on the 2014 roster is the late John Wayne, followed by Brad Pitt at No. 3, Johnny Depp at No. 4 and Tom Hanks at No. 5.
