'Boyhood,' 'Budapest,' 'Ida' hailed at the LA Film Critics Awards ceremony

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 11 (UPI) -- Richard Linklater's Boyhood was the big winner at the Los Angeles Film Critics Association's awards ceremony, scoring the honors for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Editing and Best Actress for Patricia Arquette. Co-starring Ethan Hawke, Lorelai Linklater and Ellar Coltrane, Boyhood is a family drama filmed over the course of 12 years.

The LAFCA winners were announced last month, but the prizes weren't handed out until Saturday night's ceremony.

Ida earned the accolades for Best Foreign Language Film and Best Supporting Actress for Agata Kulesza.

Writer-director Wes Anderson won the trophy for Best Screenplay for The Grand Budapest Hotel, which also earned the award for Best Production Design.

The Best Actor prize went to Tom Hardy for Locke, while J.K. Simmons was named Best Supporting Actor for Whiplash.

CITIZENFOUR was deemed Best Documentary and The Tale of the Princess Kaguya recognized as Best Animation.

Actress Gena Rowlands was honored for Career Achievement, while Selma director Ava DuVernay was presented with the New Generation Award and film critic Leonard Maltin with the group's Special Citation.
