LOS ANGELES, Jan. 8 (UPI) -- Paul Rudd has been cast in The Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving.
The 45-year-old actor will portray Ben Benjamin, a divorced and destitute father who becomes a personal attendant to 19-year-old Trev. The teenager is diagnosed with muscular dystrophy, and the characters begin to bond over their respective lots in life.
The Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving is based on Jonathan Evison's novel of the same name. The Late Show with David Letterman executive producer Rob Burnett adapted the work and will direct, with Donna Gigliotti and James Spies as producers.
"I like the risks Rob took with the script," Evison told The Washington Post. "Obviously, the dictates and limitations are different with a 300-page novel and a two-hour film ... But the important thing to me is that Rob's script really captures the spirit of the novel."
Rudd most recently starred with Amy Poehler in They Came Together. The actor will portray Scott Lang in Ant-Man, and appeared in a first trailer for the Marvel film this week. He is also scheduled to voice a character in animated movie Sausage Party.
