Melissa McCarthy, Adam Sandler win People's Choice Awards

McCarthy won the prize for Favorite Comedic Movie Actress, while Sandler scored the trophy for Favorite Comedic Movie Actor.

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- Melissa McCarthy and Adam Sandler were the first winners at the People's Choice Awards ceremony in Los Angeles Wednesday night.

McCarthy won the prize for Favorite Comedic Movie Actress, while Sandler scored the trophy for Favorite Comedic Movie Actor.

The CBS broadcast is being hosted by Mom co-stars Anna Faris and Allison Janney. Scheduled to perform throughout the evening are the musical acts Lady Antebellum, Fall Out Boy and Iggy Azalea, who took home the award for Favorite Hip-Hop Artist.

Ben Affleck is also to be presented with the People's Choice Award for Favorite Humanitarian. The ceremony recognizes the fans' favorites in film, TV and music.
