LOS ANGELES, Dec. 24 (UPI) -- A new Pee Wee Herman movie will reportedly be released directly on Netflix.
Sources close to the film's production told The Wrap, the movie moved to the streaming giant some time after Universal declared the "Pee-Wee project [was] no longer with" the company.
Actor Paul Reubens, known for playing the title character in multiple films has been outspoken about the upcoming film and told the A.V. Club in November, the team no had "such an amazing company involved, and that's the really big announcement that hasn't been made yet."
Judd Apatow will produce the film and plot details and the film's director remain unknown. Reubens and comedian Paul Rust reportedly co-wrote the script.
Netflix already offers a variety of Pee Wee Herman titles on its digital library including "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure," "Big Top Pee-Wee," "The Pee-Wee Herman Show," "Pee-Wee's Playhouse: Vol. 1" and "Pee-Wee's Playhouse: Vol. 2"
The new project will begin filming in 2015.
