Bradley Cooper stars in new trailer for 'American Sniper'

The film is based on inspiration Chris Kyle's autobiography of the same name.

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 19 (UPI) -- Bradley Cooper stars in a new trailer for American Sniper.

The 39-year-old actor portrays Chris Kyle, a real-life Navy SEAL and the most lethal sniper in American military history. The preview establishes Kyle's role in his missions in Iraq, and depicts his troubled return home to his wife, Taya (Sienna Miller).

Kyle is credited with 160 confirmed kills out of a probable 255. He served four tours in Iraq, and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy in 2009. The decorated soldier was shot and killed by a fellow veteran in February 2013.

American Sniper is directed by Clint Eastwood, with Max Charles as Colton Kyle and Luke Grimes, Kyle Gallner and Jake McDorman as Navy SEALs Marc, Winston and Ryan. The biographical feature opens in theaters Dec. 25.

Cooper last appeared on film as Richie DiMaso in David O. Russell drama American Hustle. The actor will star alongside Jennifer Lawrence in Serena and Joy, and is also scheduled for new movies from John Wells and Cameron Crowe.
