LONDON, Dec. 18 (UPI) -- Jamie Dornan went to a sex dungeon to research his character for Fifty Shades of Grey.
The 32-year-old actor revealed as much in an interview for Elle U.K.'s January issue. Dornan will portray Christian Grey in the upcoming erotic drama, and visited the kinky venue to learn more about his character's predilection for BDSM.
"I went there, they offered me a beer, and they did... whatever they were into," he recalled of the experience. "I saw a dominant with one of his two submissives."
"I was like: 'Come on guys I know I'm not paying for this but I am expecting a show,'" he told the magazine. "It was an interesting evening. Then going back to my wife and newborn baby afterwards... I had a long shower before touching either of them."
Fifty Shades of Grey is based on the E.L. James novel of the same name. The story follows literature student Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) as she develops a relationship with wealthy businessman Grey and learns of his "very singular" sexual tastes.
Fifty Shades of Grey opens in theaters Feb. 13, 2015. Dornan previously appeared alongside Kirsten Dunst in Marie Antoinette and as The Huntsman on ABC series Once Upon a Time, and currently stars as serial killer Paul Spector on BBC Two drama The Fall.
