'Gone with the Wind' is America's all-time favorite movie, survey says

The pollsters asked 2,276 U.S. adults to name their favorite movie of all time. The participants were questioned online between Nov. 12-17.

NEW YORK, Dec. 17 (UPI) -- The Civil War epic Gone with the Wind has been voted America's favorite movie -- 75 years after its theatrical release, a Harris Poll indicates.

The big-screen adaptation of Margaret Mitchell's best-selling novel starred Clark Gable, Vivien Leigh, Leslie Howard, Olivia de Havilland and Hattie McDaniel.

The results of the Harris Poll -- suggesting the movie is still very much loved -- were released Wednesday.

The pollsters asked 2,276 U.S. adults to name their favorite movie of all time. The participants were questioned online between Nov. 12-17.

Coming in at No. 2 on the roster is the Star Wars series, followed by Titanic at No. 3, The Godfather at No. 4 and The Lord of the Rings franchise at No. 5.

Rounding out the top tier are The Sound of Music at No. 6, Dirty Dancing at No. 7, The Wizard of Oz at No. 8, It's a Wonderful Life at No. 9 and E.T. at No. 10.
