NEW YORK, Dec. 2 (UPI) -- The National Board of Review has declared A Most Violent Year the Best Film of 2014, and singled out for praise the oustanding performances of its stars Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain.
Isaac shared the Best Actor title with Birdman lead Michael Keaton, while Chastain won the Best Supporting Actress prize.
The Best Director distinction went to Clint Eastwood for American Sniper, Julianne Moore scored the award for Best Actress for Still Alice and Edward Norton was named Best Supporting Actor for Birdman.
The Lego Movie scribes Phil Lord and Christopher Miller won in the category of Best Original Screenplay and Paul Thomas Anderson won the Best Adapted Screenplay accolade for Inherent Vice.
Wild Tales was named Best Foreign Language Film and Life Itself Best Documentary.
The NBR's other favorite 2014 films -- in alphabetical order -- are American Sniper, Birdman, Boyhood, Fury, Gone Girl, The Imitation Game, Inherent Vice, The Lego Movie, Nightcrawler and Unbroken.
