Annie is based on the Broadway musical of the same name, which itself is inspired by the Harold Gray comic strip Little Orphan Annie. The musical was previously adapted for film in 1982, and for a television movie in 1999. A DVD-quality version of the new remake leaked online over Thanksgiving weekend.

Annie is directed by Will Gluck, and produced by Jay Z, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith. Cameron Diaz also stars as Miss Hannigan, with Rose Byrne as Stacks' assistant Grace Farrell, Bobby Cannavale as Stacks' political adviser Guy and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Stacks' driver Nash. The film opens in theaters December 19.

Kunis and Kutcher got engaged in February, and welcomed their first child, daughter Wyatt Isabelle, on September 30. The actress will appear alongside Channing Tatum in Andy Wachowski (Cloud Atlas) space opera film Jupiter Ascending in 2015.
