Lily James stars in first trailer for 'Cinderella'

The film is based on the 1697 Charles Perrault fairy tale and 1950 Disney animated feature of the same name.

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 19 (UPI) -- Lily James stars in a first trailer for Cinderella.

The 25-year-old actress portrays the title character in the live action Disney adaptation. The film is based on the 1697 Charles Perrault fairy tale and 1950 animated feature of the same name.

The preview establishes Cinderella's relationship with her wicked stepmother, Lady Tremaine (Cate Blanchett), and stepsisters Drisella (Sophie McShera) and Anastasia (Holliday Granger). The trailer also sees her captivate Prince Charming, Kit (Richard Madden), thanks to the help of her Fairy Godmother (Helena Bonham Carter).

Kenneth Branagh (Much Ado About Nothing, Thor) directed the film, with David Barron, Simon Kinberg and Allison Shearmur as producers. The movie is one of several live action Disney remakes in the works, with The Jungle Book, Beauty and the Beast and Dumbo to follow. Cinderella will open in theaters March 13, 2015.

James is best known for portraying Lady Rose McClare on ITV series Downton Abbey, and has also appeared on BBC One sitcom Just William and ITV2 drama Secret Diary of a Call Girl. The actress will star as Elizabeth Bennet in an upcoming adaptation of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.
