LOS ANGELES, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- Fifty Shades of Grey released a dramatic new trailer Thursday.

The preview establishes Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) and Anastasia Steele's (Dakota Johnson) lives before they meet -- his privileged and fastidious, hers ordinary but relaxed -- and follows the development of their relationship.

Beyonce's song "Haunted" sets the tone as glimpses of Grey's Red Room of Pain and Steele's submissive contract are shown. As the trailer progresses, it becomes clear Grey's "singular" tastes may interfere with the pair's budding relationship.

Fifty Shades of Grey is based on the bestselling 2011 erotic novel by E.L. James. Sam Taylor-Johnson directed the film, with Eloise Mumford as Kate Kavanagh, Marcia Gay Harden as Grace Trevelyan Grey, Luke Grimes as Elliot Grey and Rita Ora as Mia Grey.

Fifty Shades of Grey opens in theaters Feb. 13, 2015.
