'Nanny McPhee' director, Kirk Jones, tapped for 'My Greek Wedding 2'

Nia Vardalos will return to star in and write the sequel, much like she did in the previous film.

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 12 (UPI) -- Nanny McPhee director Kirk Jones has been chosen to helm the upcoming movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, a sequel for the 2002 indie hit, My Big Fat Greek Wedding.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Universal Studios has acquired the rights for the sequel and plans to bring back actress Nia Vardalos, to star and write the film, much like she did in the previous film.

Vardalos revealed there would be a sequel in May, writing on Twitter that she was working on the new script.

Co-star John Corbett will also return for the sequel in the role of Ian Miller, the non-Greek man who marries Vardalos' very-greek character, Toula Portokalos.

Jones, the film's director, last helmed Everybody's Fine in 2005 and What to Expect When You're Expecting in 2012.
