LONDON, Nov. 3 (UPI) -- Jamie Dornan won't go full frontal nude in Fifty Shades of Grey.

The 32-year-old actor will portray Christian Grey in Sam Taylor-Johnson's movie adaptation of the E. L. James erotic novel. The Fifty Shades trilogy of books are well known for their BDSM sex scenes, but Dornan told the Guardian the film won't be as overt.

"There were contracts in place that said viewers wouldn't be seeing my, um..." he revealed. "You want to appeal to as wide an audience as possible without grossing them out. You don't want to make something gratuitous, and ugly and graphic."

"Sam is a very bright woman, so there might be some suggestive elements to it, but I haven't seen it at this stage, so it is hard for me to say," he said of the movie's content. "I'm aware of what we shot, and it wasn't as if we shot a film without any action."

Dornan will star opposite Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele, and admitted filming the sex scenes proved to be anything but sexy.

"Anyone who thinks actors get turned on doing sex scenes in films is mistaken," he asserted. "There are dozens of hairy men standing around, moving cables and lighting equipment. That's not sexy unless you're into being watched, which I'm not."

Dornan started his career as a model, and landed his first film role in Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette (2006). The actor has since starred as The Huntsman on ABC series Once Upon a Time, and currently portrays Paul Spector on BBC Two crime drama The Fall.

Fifty Shades of Grey is scheduled for release February 13, 2015.
