Marvel announces 'Black Panther,' 'Captain Marvel,' 'Thor 3'

"Captain Marvel" will be the studio's first female-led standalone film.

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 28 (UPI) -- Marvel revealed plans for nine new films during a special event at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles on Tuesday.

President Kevin Feige confirmed Captain America: Civil War for May 6, 2016 and Doctor Strange for November 4, 2016, and announced Guardians of the Galaxy 2 for May 5, 2017, Thor: Ragnarok for July 28, 2017, Avengers: Infinity War - Part 1 for May 4, 2018, Captain Marvel for July 6, 2018, Inhumans for November 2, 2018 and Avengers: Infinity War - Part 2 for May 3, 2019.

Captain Marvel will feature female Captain Marvel Carol Danvers. In the Marvel comics, the character develops superpowers after her genetic structure melds with the original Captain Marvel, Dr. Walter Lawson. She possesses superhuman strength and endurance, and a resistance to most toxins and poisons.

Marvel will next release Avengers: Age of Ultron on May 1, 2015. The film will be followed by Ant-Man on July 17, 2015, and Deadpool on February 12, 2016.
