'Divergent' sequel 'Insurgent' to get 3D release

Based on Veronica Roth's book and co-starring Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Ansel Elgort, Kate Winslet and Octavia Spencer, the movie "raises the stakes for Tris as she searches for allies and answers in the ruins of a futuristic Chicago," a synopsis said.

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Oct. 28 (UPI) -- Insurgent, the sequel to the blockbuster movie Divergent, is to be released in both 3D and 2D formats March 20, Lionsgate announced Tuesday.

"The second film in the Divergent franchise takes the story and action to another level and, by partnering with RealD, we were able to blend gripping performances and mind-blowing spectacle to create a unique event on screen," producers Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher said in a joint statement. "We cannot wait to share this experience with audiences around the world."
