LOS ANGELES, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- Obi-Wan Kenobi may be the focus of a new trilogy of films.

The Star Wars character was originally expected to receive his own spinoff movie, but a source told Cinelinx there are actually three films in the works at Disney and Lucasfilm. The features would be standalone movies set between Episodes III and IV, instead of a trilogy with a continuous storyline.

The insider said one movie would be set on Tatooine, and two would see the jedi travel elsewhere in the galaxy. Kenobi's mentor, Qui-Gon Jinn, would be "very much present," and Owen Lars would have a role. Lars is Anakin Skywalker's stepbrother in the Star Wars films, but is presented as Kenobi's brother in the series of books. In addition, several characters from the Clone Wars would make an appearance.

Star Wars: Episode VII is the next installment scheduled to debut in theaters. The movie will take place approximately 30 years after Return of the Jedi, and John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Lupita Nyong'o and Gwendoline Christie will star. Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Kenny Baker will reprise their roles from the original films.
