LOS ANGELES, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- Actor Jeff Goldblum assured "Independence Day" fans that talks of a sequel are in the very early stages. There is nothing set in stone but the discussions have started and he has been involved, the actor said in an interview.

"I had a meeting and have been talking over the last several months or year with Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin, the producer, and they've been cooking up and say they have a part for me in what they hope will be a plan to make another one pretty soon," Goldblum told TIME.
The sequel will reportedly involve another alien invasion, but details are not available.
He said he does not think Will Smith will be involved in the second installment. Goldblum will also star in the upcoming Jurassic Park sequel.
