Catherine Zeta-Jones joins 'Dad's Army' cast

The original Dad's Army series aired on the BBC from 1968 to 1977 and was voted as Britain's best sitcom in 2004.

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- Catherine Zeta-Jones has joined the cast of the upcoming big screen adaptation of the BBC's television series Dad's Army.

The comedy takes place during the climax of World War II and focuses on the Home Guard in Walmington-on-Sea, where morale is low. The film will star Toby Jones as Captain Mainwaring and Bill Nighy as Sergeant Wilson.

Zeta-Jones, 45, will play Rose Winters a journalist who is covering the Home Guard as they search for a spy in the crew.

Dad's Army will be directed by Oliver Parker and will be shot on location in Yorkshire. Tom Courtenay, Michael Gambon, Danny Mays and Bill Paterson will also star on the film.

News of Zeta-Jones' new role comes one week after it was revealed that the Oscar-winning actress will play drug lord Griselda Blanco in the upcoming biopic, The Godmother.
