LOS ANGELES, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- X-Men: Apocalypse will likely recast Storm, Cyclops and Jean Grey.

Halle Berry, James Marsden and Famke Janssen portrayed the characters in previous X-Men films, but the new installment takes place 20 years before the original X-Men (2000). Producer Simon Kinberg addressed the potential change in an interview with Yahoo!.

"If we included some of the original X-Men like Storm and Jean and Scott [Summers, aka Cyclops] and others in Apocalypse, yeah, we would have to recast them," he revealed. "Halle, Famke and Jimmy and others have done such wonderful jobs of bringing those characters to life."

"It would be a tall task," he admitted. "But I also would have said before First Class there would have been no way we find actors who could stand alongside Ian McKellen [as Magneto] and Patrick Stewart [as Charles Xavier], but I think we managed to with Michael [Fassbender] and James [McAvoy], finding their own interpretations of the characters, not doing an impersonation."

X-Men: Apocalypse takes place 10 years after X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014), and will see the team face off against ancient villain Apocalypse. Young Charles Xavier (McAvoy), Magneto (Fassbender), Beast (Nicholas Hoult) and Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) will lead the cast, with newcomer Channing Tatum as Gambit. The film is scheduled for release May 27, 2016.
