The original Underworld debuted in 2003, and starred Kate Beckinsale as the vampire Selene. The actress returned to star in sequels Underworld: Evolution (2006) and Underworld: Awakening (2011), and had a brief appearance in prequel Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (2009).

The film series revolves around the conflict between vampires and lycans, a race of enhanced and immortal werewolves. Underworld: Awakening saw Selene give birth to Eve (India Eisley), her daughter with vampire-lycan hybrid Michael Corvin (Scott Speedman), and it is possible the reboot would focus on the character.

Goodman's next project, The Last Witch Hunter, is in pre-production with Vin Diesel, Rose Leslie and Michael Caine.
