LOS ANGELES, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Sandra Bullock has committed to star in political dramedy Our Brand is Crisis.

The 50-year-old actress will portray "Calamity" Jane Bodine, a retired American political consultant with a penchant for using famous quotes to emphasize her talking points. Bullock has been in talks for the role since last year, and the "strength" of director David Gordon Green's "vision" is said to have persuaded her to come on board.

Our Brand is Crisis is based on Rachel Boynton's 2005 documentary of the same name, and Bullock, George Clooney and Grant Heslov will executive produce. The film follows the impact of American political campaign marketing tactics on the 2002 Bolivian presidential election, which saw Gonzalo Sanchez de Lozada elected.

Green is best known for directing Pineapple Express (2008), and also directed 12 episodes of HBO series Eastbound & Down. Bullock last appeared in Gravity in 2013, and is slated to star in Tate Taylor's Tupperware Unsealed.
