LONDON, Aug. 18 (UPI) -- Terry Crews was "so happy" to return for The Expendables 3.

The 46-year-old actor portrayed barrel-weapons specialist Hale Caesar in The Expendables (2010) and The Expendables 2 (2012), and reprised the role for the new sequel. Crews spoke to Den of Geek ahead of the movie's premiere Friday, and had nothing but praise for franchise writer and co-star Sylvester Stallone.

"You know the thing about working with Sly and what I'd hoped would happen, is that he is the sequel master," Crews lauded. "Getting my first chance to be in a big action movie when I was doing the first Expendables, I just prayed to God it did well enough so we could do another, because that's what he does, and then we had two and it did well and was a big hit worldwide."

"I was just so happy and Expendables 2 was actually the first sequel I ever did," he continued. "This is what Sly does and I will do them as much as I can, as long as I am still in them, if they invite me in I am good!"

The Expendables 3 took in $16.2 million over the weekend, compared to a $34.8 million opening weekend for The Expendables and $28.6 million for The Expendables 2. The performance may be tied to the movie's leak online and a PG-13 rating; both The Expendables and The Expendables 2 are rated R.

Crews will reprise his role as Detective Sergeant Terence Jeffords on the second season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine. The Fox series returns September 28.
