'Guardians of the Galaxy 2' is a go

Marvel to release "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" in 2017.

SAN DIEGO, July 26 (UPI) -- Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy hasn't even hit theaters yet and already the movie's sequel has been announced.

Director James Gunn and Star Lord himself, Chris Pratt, made the announcement by video Saturday at the end of the Marvel panel at the San Diego Comic-Con.

The sci-fi superhero sequel will have a release date of July 28, 2017.

Gunn took to Twitter to announce the news for those of us unable to attend this year's convention.

Guardians of the Galaxy is set to hit theaters Aug. 1.
