Geena Davis, Susan Sarandon reunite, discuss Brad Pitt in 'Thelma & Louise'

LOS ANGELES, June 26 (UPI) -- Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon recently reunited over Thelma & Louise.

The two actresses came together last week, and spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the classic 1991 film. The movie is honored on the publication's list of Hollywood's 100 favorite films, and the women discussed the tragic ending and co-star Brad Pitt in the interview, published Wednesday.

The feature marked Pitt's first major role, and was a significant change of pace for director Ridley Scott (Alien, Blade Runner). Davis and Sarandon star as Thelma and Louise, respectively, a housewife and waitress who kill a would-be rapist and take off in a 1966 Ford Thunderbird. The film is noted for its feminist overtones and surprisingly dark ending, which sees the pair drive off the edge of the Grand Canyon to their deaths.

"I said to Ridley, 'I hope we're not gonna shoot this [ending] and then you test it and then we end up in Club Med. If I'm gonna play that part, I want to make sure that I know where it's going,'" Sarandon shared. "He said, 'I can tell you that you will definitely die. But I'm not sure about Thelma. You may push her out of the car at the last minute.'"

Thelma and Brad Pitt's character J.D. share a love scene in the movie, a scene Davis said "was very challenging." The actor's good looks and easy charm immediately won audiences over, and the actresses said he left a good first impression on them as well.

"I actually read with him first -- there were five candidates for the role," Davis recalled. "And then he came in -- this is so embarrassing -- but I got a little distracted during the scene, you know? I was forgetting my lines. I was like, 'I'm totally screwing up this kid's audition' ... Ridley's also very much into the look of things. He was personally spraying the Evian on Brad's stomach for the shots where you see his abs and I'm like, 'Hello!'"

"He's told stories about how professional I was and how I made him a professional," Sarandon added. "I don't remember any of that! It seemed like it was absolutely, absolutely easy for him. When I saw the movie and I saw him in the scene in the police station, that's when I knew that he really was something special. There was something there. He's a very smart guy."

Davis and Sarandon took a new selfie during the interview that mirrors the photo they take together in the movie. Davis will next star in Me Him Her in 2015, while Sarandon is scheduled to appear in The Calling this year.
