LOS ANGELES, June 5 (UPI) -- Bill Condon will direct a live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast.

The 58-year-old director is best known for Dreamgirls and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part One and Part Two. He also penned the script for the big screen adaptation of Chicago, which went on to win an Academy Award for Best Picture in 2002.

Beauty and the Beast was released in 1991, and garnered a Best Picture nomination of its own at the 64th Academy Awards. It ultimately lost to The Silence of the Lambs, but won Best Original Score and Best Original Song. The movie has earned over $424 million at the box office.

Disney has two other live adaptations in the works. Jon Favreau will direct a remake of The Jungle Book, while Kenneth Branagh will direct Cinderella for a March 2015 release.
