LONDON, May 30 (UPI) -- Charlize Theron is under fire for likening intrusive media coverage to rape.

The 38-year-old actress made the comparison during an interview with Sky News Friday.

"I don't [Google myself]," she says of her celebrity. "That's my saving grace. I think it's when you start living in that world and doing that, that you start feeling raped."

When asked if she meant to make such a strong comparison, she responds, "Well, when it comes to your son and your private life. Maybe it's just me."

Theron's comments come days after Gwyneth Paltrow equated online criticism with being in war. Both women are being slammed on social media for their respective analogies.

"#CharlizeTheron your timing is shocking given the brutal rape and murders in India. Get real!" one person writes.

"#CharlizeTheron is a complete moron..." another person adds. "Maybe a private life being intruded on is awful... But comparing it to rape? #get a grip."
