'Goosebumps' movie begins production with Jack Black, Dylan Minnette

Jack Black is attached to star as author R.L. Stine in the upcoming adaptation.

ATLANTA, April 24 (UPI) -- Production has started on the upcoming film adaptation of Goosebumps.

The new movie will be based on the R.L. Stine books of the same name. The stories are horror tales written for children, and debuted in 1992. Stine wrote 62 books in the original series, and an additional 115 for the spinoff series.

Jack Black is attached to star as author R.L. Stine in the fictional adaptation. Dylan Minnette and Odeya Rush appear as the characters Zach Cooper and Hannah, Stine's daughter. Zach discovers that the monsters Stine writes about are real, and inadvertently sets them free from their pages. He must then team up with Hannah and Stine to return the creatures to their manuscripts.

Rob Letterman (Shark Tale, Monsters vs. Aliens) will serve as director, and Super 8 actor Ryan Lee has also joined the cast.

Goosebumps is scheduled for theatrical release March 23, 2016.
