'12 Years a Slave' wins Best Drama Film Golden Globe

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 12 (UPI) -- The 19th century Louisiana-set epic "12 Years a Slave" was named Best Drama Film at the Golden Globe Awards ceremony in Los Angeles Sunday night.

"A little bit in shock," confessed director Steve McQueen as he accepted the prize. "I wasn't expecting this."

He then thanked his extraordinary cast, which includes Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender, Lupita Nyong'o, Sarah Paulson, Alfre Woodard, Paul Dano and Benedict Cumberbatch, and also gave a shout out to Brad Pitt, who served as a producer on the film, as well as has a memorable cameo in it.

Alfonso Cuaron won the Best Director Globe for helming the space drama "Gravity," while Spike Jonze picked up the prize for Best Screenplay for his human-computer romance "Her."

"Frozen" was declared the year's Best Animated Feature.
