Rescue scene cut from new X-Men movie

HOLLYWOOD, Fla., Dec. 22 (UPI) -- The director of Hollywood's new X-Men movie says a major sequence has been cut from the final version.

Bryan Singer told Entertainment Weekly that a daring rescue featuring the lead characters won't be part of the theater release of "X-Men: Days of Future Past" in the spring.

"Through the editing process, the sequence became extraneous," said Singer. "It's a really good sequence and it will probably end up on the DVD so people can see it."

Entertainment Weekly said the cut means Anna Paquin, who plays Rogue, won't be seen in the final release.

Paquin, who won an Oscar for "The Piano," was only on the set for a week and appeared only in the rescue scenes. Singer said she "was awesome in the sequence."

"She's very professional and she knows that stuff happens, particularly with material you shoot early on in production," Singer said. "Films evolve."
