Fox announces fifth 'Ice Age' movie

HOLLYWOOD, Dec. 21 (UPI) -- Fox Animation Studios announced plans to release the fifth installment of the "Ice Age" animated movie franchise in 2016.

The announcement from Fox and Blue Sky Studios indicated "Ice Age 5" will be released in July 2016, taking up a slot originally occupied by another Fox/Blue Sky title, "Anubis."

"Anubis," based on a novel about a mummy's curse, was moved back to March 23, 2018, The Hollywood Reporter said.

The first four "Ice Age" movies grossed a combined $2.8 billion at the global box office, and the latest offering, "Ice Age: Continental Drift," took in $874.9 million worldwide.
