LOS ANGELES, Nov. 13 (UPI) -- Hollywood's Universal Pictures plans to release the big-screen version of the best-selling erotic book "Fifty Shades of Grey" Feb. 13, 2015, EW.com reported.

The original release date of Aug. 1, 2014 was scrapped after production on the film was postponed a month to allow Northern Irish actor Jamie Dornan time to prepare for the role of billionaire Christian Grey.

Dornan replaced actor Charlie Hunnam, who dropped out of the project to focus on his TV show "Sons of Anarchy."

Even if Hunnam hadn't left the film, its release date would have been pushed back to avoid having it compete with other summer blockbusters, Universal told EW.com.

The film should benefit from the new date because it is on the three-day Presidents' Day weekend and also includes Valentine's Day, the entertainment news magazine said.

Dakota Johnson is to co-star in the movie.
