10 animinated shorts advance in Oscar race

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Nov. 7 (UPI) -- Ten animated short films have advanced in Hollywood's 2013 Oscar race, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said Thursday.

Fifty-six pictures had originally qualified in the category.

The 10 films, listed in alphabetical order by title, with their directors, are: "Feral" by Daniel Sousa; "Get a Horse!" by Lauren MacMullan; "Gloria Victoria" by Theodore Ushev; "Hollow Land" by Uri Kranot and Michelle Kranot; "The Missing Scarf" by Eoin Duffy; "Mr. Hublot" by Laurent Witz and Alexandre Espigares; "Possessions" by Shuhei Morita; "Requiem for Romance" by Jonathan Ng; "Room on the Broom" by Max Lang and Jan Lachauer; and "Subconscious Password" by Chris Landreth.

Short Films and Feature Animation Branch members will select three to five nominees from among the 10 titles on the shortlist.

The 86th Academy Awards nominations will be announced Jan. 16.

Oscars for outstanding film achievements of 2013 will be presented March 2 at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Los Angeles.
