Eight short documentaries make Oscar short list

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- Hollywood's Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has chosen eight documentary short films to continue in the 86th Academy Awards race.

The short list was culled from 40 submitted films and will be further pared down to three to five nominations to be announced Jan. 16.

The shortlisted films are --

"CaveDigger" directed by Jeffrey Karoff;

"Facing Fear" by Jason Cohen;

"Jujitsu-ing Reality" by Chetin Chabuk;

"Karama Has No Walls" by Sara Ishaq.

"The Lady in Number 6: Music Saved My Life" by Malcolm Clarke;

"Prison Terminal: The Last Days of Private Jack Hall" by Edgar Barens;

"Recollections" by Nathanael Carton;

"SLOMO" by Joshua Izenberg.

Oscars for outstanding film achievements of 2013 will be presented March 2 at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center and televised live on ABC.
