LOS ANGELES, Sept. 24 (UPI) -- Production has begun on "Dumb and Dumber To," the big-screen sequel starring Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey, Hollywood's Universal Pictures said Tuesday.

The studio released a photo Tuesday showing Daniels and Carrey in costume, sharing a laugh, on the film's set.

The followup to 1994's "Dumb and Dumber" is to be released in 2014. Co-starring Kathleen Turner and Laurie Holden, the film is being directed by fraternal filmmakers Peter and Bobby Farrelly.

"Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels reprise their signature roles as Lloyd and Harry in the long-demanded sequel to the smash hit that took the physical comedy and kicked it in the nuts: 'Dumb and Dumber To,'" Universal said in a news release Tuesday. "Joined by the original film's directors, Peter and Bobby Farrelly, they take Lloyd and Harry on a road trip to find a child Harry never knew he had and the responsibility neither should ever, ever be given."

Daniels won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama for his work in "The Newsroom" Sunday night.
